Lower Elementary (Grades 1-3)

At Country Montessori School, our Lower Elementary program (Grades 1–3) builds on the Early Childhood foundation. Students expand their academic skills through longer work cycles, small group lessons, and collaborative projects. With hands-on materials and guided discovery, children develop independence, responsibility, and a love of learning that will carry them through their elementary years and beyond.

A Typical Day in Lower Elementary

Our Lower Elementary schedule balances focused learning, group collaboration, and enrichment:

  • Arrival & Morning Meeting – Community gathering, pledge, calendar, and daily goals
  • Great Work Period – Extended time for individual lessons, small group instruction, and reading groups
  • Lunch & Recess – Shared meals and outdoor play for social development and balance
  • Afternoon Work & Enrichment – Lessons in P.E., Spanish, Music, Art, and Cultural Studies (rotating schedule)
  • Classroom Care & Dismissal – Students take part in classroom responsibilities before dismissal or after-school care

Enrichment Opportunities

Lower Elementary students participate in a rich mix of weekly enrichment classes that complement their Montessori work:

  • Spanish – Expands vocabulary, conversational skills, and cultural awareness through interactive lessons.
  • Music – Focuses on rhythm, singing, and percussion. Students also take part in school-wide performances such as the annual Spring Fling.
  • Art – Encourages creativity and self-expression through drawing, painting, and hands-on projects.
  • Physical Education – Promotes fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship through active games and skill-building activities.
  • Digital Literacy – Introduces students to typing, safe and responsible internet use, online research, and digital citizenship practices.

We value open communication with parents through conferences, progress updates, and events. Families are active partners in supporting each child’s growth.
